What is the procedure for passengers with reduced mobility on the plane?
According to international conventions on air traffic, persons with reduced mobility have the right to fly an airplane. Airlines are committed to adapting their procedures to them and allowing them to use their services at no extra cost.
Passengers who are considered to be persons with reduced mobility in the air traffic and to whom special rules apply are:
- immovable persons
- poorly mobile persons due to a chronic illness, congenital physical dysfunction, due to acute illnesses or transient physical injuries
- visually impaired and blind persons
- chronic patients whose illness requires constant monitoring and care
Wheelchair transportation is complimentary, as is airport assistance. As this is a special service, you must provide us with advance information when it comes to booking an airline ticket that it is a disabled person.
Wheelchair users have the advantage of boarding but only disembark when everyone else is exiting (the last to leave the plane).
Announcement of disabled passenger
In case you do not specify when booking your ticket, you can do so no later than 72 hours before departure. Please send your request to email, be sure to state the type and degree of disability, a description of the disability aids (cane, crutches, wheelbarrows, etc.), the necessity of medical escort, as well as whether assistance is needed and what type.
Even when booking an airline they can refuse a disabled passenger based on an internal rule on the maximum number of such passengers per flight, so it is better to request a wheelchair immediately. Also, you need to download and complete the MEDIF form with you.
Wheelchairs for the disabled
Depending on the level of assistance needed at the airport, the following categories of disabled passengers are distinguished:
- WCHR – Passengers who can climb stairs or descend as well as move on their own from or to their place on the plane. They do not need a wheelchair to get to the plane.
- WCHS – passengers who cannot climb or descend the stairs but can reach their seats on the plane themselves. Wheelchairs are necessary for them to get on and get on the plane
- WCHC – completely immobile passenger. They need to be provided with a wheelchair to get to the plane, climb stairs and get to the seat itself. The same procedure is for exiting an aircraft. For these passengers as well as those with impaired vision and hearing a companion is essential.
All three services are free, but you must wait for a response from us that the airline has approved the cart.
Plane Travel Tips
- If the passenger has difficulty using the toilet on the plane, it is recommended that they choose two shorter connecting flights instead of one direct flight.
- The choice of aircraft plays a significant role and when possible larger aircraft should be selected for more comfort.
- If the passengers are unable to give themselves therapy, they must have a medical escort. The person traveling as an escort pays the full price of the plane ticket.
Own wheelchair on the flight
You need to indicate the weight, dimensions, and type of supplies you want to bring on board when booking. Also, state the following:
- do you use manually operated trolleys
- whether you are using a cart on a dry or liquid battery
