Cargo transportation of animals
Cargo transportation of animals
If your pet weighs more than 8 kg along with the carrier, it is not possible to be in the cabin of the aircraft. The exception is dog guides for blind and deaf passengers. Transport of animals of greater weight and dimensions is only possible in the cargo area of the aircraft. Please note that not all airlines have this option, so choose carefully when booking your airline online.
The pet transporter must comply with IATA rules. Please refer to the link above for information on all procedures that airlines must follow. It must be well secured, bite resistant, waterproof, without sharp edges, and contain food and water canisters.
Transportation of dogfighting breeds
If you have a combat dog listed below, keep in mind that it is carried exclusively in the cargo area of the aircraft:
- American Pit Bull Terrier
- American Staffordshire Terrier
- Stafford Bull Terrier
- Bull Terrier (miniature Bull Terriers are not classified as fighting dogs)
- American Bulldog
- Dogo Argentino
- Kangal or Karabash – Anatolian shepherd dog
- Caucasian shepherd dog
- Rottweiler
Cost of cargo transportation for pets
Prices for cargo transportation are slightly higher than those applicable to the transport of animals in an aircraft cabin.
Certain breeds of dogs and cats have genetic respiratory problems. This group includes the following types of dogs: French Bulldog, Chow Chow, Boxer, Pag, Pekingese, and others. As for cats, there are Himalayan, Persian and Scottish, as well as British and exotic shorthair.
Other modes of transport are advised for these types of transport as they may have serious health problems. However, if it is necessary for them to travel by plane, then they must have enough space in the conveyor to be able to move freely on all sides.
