When you are buying an airline ticket online, you can ask for a specific seat on the plane. This service is extra charged and depends on the price list of the airline. When you book a seat on a plane, your airline confirmation is pending. After that, you can make an extra payment.
Depending on the type of aircraft, the seating plan varies. Smaller aircraft (ATR or Foker) have a 1 + 2 or 2 + 2 configuration. The 1 + 2 arrangement means that the seats are in two columns (left and right) and that there is only one seat in one column and two in the other. On the other side of the 2 + 2, there are 4 seats in one row (two on the left and two on the right). For wide-angle planes, the 3 + 3 or 3 + 4 + 3 configuration is more common.
The seats on the plane are indicated by letters and numbers. The number that indicates the row is marked first, and then a letter representing the column label is added. The columns are signified by the letters A, B, C, D, E and F, and the rows use numbers from 1 onwards. Columns A and F are next to the window, while C and D are next to the aisle.
Economy class seats can be partly downthrow. These seats have legroom. The distance between adjacent seats ranges from 74 to 94cm depending on the type of flight (short or long).
In business class seats are bigger, wider and more comfortable. On intercontinental flights and in larger aircraft, seats can downthrow up to 180 degrees.
If you decide to travel first class, you have a bed instead of a seat. Of course, the bed can mold into a normal seat.
