What is a boarding pass?

A boarding pass  is a document you get at the airport from the counter when handing over your luggage and passport. If you sign up for a flight at an interactive kiosk, you will be issued a boarding pass. You can also get it by mail if you make an online check.

What does a boarding card contain?

This document is very important. You need to have it with you because getting on a plane is not possible without it. Here’s the information on the boarding pass:

• the name of the airline you fly
• the relation to which the map applies
• flight number
• name of the passenger
• date of travel
• time to boarding
• airplane takeoff time
• the class you are traveling
• reservation code
• electronic ticket number
• the terminal you are departing from
• the gate sign of the aircraft
• number of seats on the plane
• a bar code that is read when boarding an aircraft

Printed boarding map or on your phone?

Many low-cost companies require that they print boarding tickets  and bring that paper to the airport. This is necessary, first of all, to certify the document that travelers who are not members of the European Union do not need a visa for the country to which they are traveling.

Boarding tickets for low cost and regular airlines

Take special care if you travel RyanAir.  When you have completed your flight registration, you will receive a boarding ticket in the mail, which you will need to print  and take with you. On the other hand, WizzAir allows for most flights to be logged on the phone, while for some destination online check-in is not possible at all. In that case, you have to wait at the airport and get a boarding ticket there.

With regular airlines, it’s enough to have a boarding ticket stored on your phone. In this case, it is important that the bar code read onboarding the aircraft is crystal clear.
