What is cabin baggage and how much can I carry?

Cabin baggage is a bag or backpack that you can bring on a plane. The amount or the type of hand luggage depends on the standards of each airline, the type of aircraft, or how much space is there in the cabin. The quantity of the carry-on piece varies depending on the class you are traveling through as well.

Cabin luggage standards on traditional airlines flights

Each traditional airline has precise dimensions for cabin baggage as well as weight. For most regular airlines, the maximum size of the hand luggage is 55x40x25cm. The weight is usually limited to 7kg.

In case you are traveling by economy class you are allowed to bring one carry-on piece that is included in the price of the airline ticket. Some airlines on their business class flights allow a bag weigh up to 10kg or 12kg or even two bags of 7kg or 8kg each. Of course, it is very important that you are well informed about this before purchasing an airline ticket.

Cabin baggage on low-cost flights

Unlike traditional airlines, the hand luggage situation with low cost is different. Most of them include only a small backpack or bag with a maximum dimension of 35x20x20cm in free luggage.

On the other hand, they also allow you to carry the standard 55x40x25cm small travel bag, but it is an extra charge. It is much better to buy a bag in advance as the price at the airport is much higher than online.

The liquid in hand luggage

You are allowed to bring fluid into the plane, but you must adhere strictly to the rules. Otherwise, when checking your luggage, anything that contains fluid can be taken away. Keep in mind the following:

• Containers larger than 100 ml are not allowed, even if they are just partially filled
• All containers must be packed in a plastic transparent bag with a zip closure
• The plastic bag containing the containers must be sealed and handed over separately during the security check of hand luggage (removed from the case)
• All liquids should be stored in one large maximum size 20x20cm

Note: Make sure your personal items are in your luggage, not the one you hand over at the terminal when you check.
